2 days ago I found a wallet

It contains 5 credit cards, various membership cards for local stuff, and some other stuff, including cash.
I'm loathed to hand it in the police because I'm sure the cash will end up in someone's back pocket (me of little faith).
This person has hopefully cancelled all the cards but do you think it's reasonable to contact the card provider and tell them I have the wallet. Would they forward my contact details so this gentleman could then come and collect his property from me?
If you found yourself in this position would you think this is the best way to deal with it?

Qula, contact the organisation s on the cards. They won't give you the member's contact details but they will take your telephone number and pass a message to the owner to contact you.
That' s what I did when I found myself in a similar situation.
