I say yes. Not only that, but the Immigration service should take the day off so that our loyal friends of Britain in Eastern Europe can come here to celebrate in person, rather than by proxy. Single tickets only required.

Star when I was asked by the DWP if I got any benefits I said no, and as an afterthought I said only my State Pension they said that the State Pension is classed as a benefit. I argued that I'd paid for it for 50 odd years but they insisted it was classed as a benefit.

That's interesting ladybird. I would have thought the same as you did. I don't get any pension credits - I don't even really understand it but I just get my retirement pension. I will take whatever they give me because I paid in for it during my working life and so did my husband but I never thought of it as a benefit.
I didn't really mean it Sirandy (bow, scrape) and I know you have your tongue firmly fixed in your cheek. The trouble is if they did give extra it would be extra to all and people who have not paid would also receive it. Yes?

I dont class my pension as a benefit I have paid for it the same as I paid into a works pension and now the b......s tax me

Alex, I also get an industrial pension and the b's stop income tax. I thought we were going to get a bit less this month because the numbers had altered but I still had £73 stopped. I expect others get much more than this, but it is still annoying as since you paid in for it and presumably had income tax stopped on it already, you are having to pay through the nose again. If I could think of a way of getting around it I would, but rack my brains as I might an answer does not come up.
