URLs on Firefox screen.

I use both Firefox and Safari, though I prefer Firefox. But Firefox has an irritating feature that I can't find a way of getting rid of.

When browsing, a small white URL appears in the bottom left of the screen which changes with the screen I select and tells me the URL of the screen I'm on. I know very well where I am and I really don't need the prompt which is in my opinion a useless distraction.

Would some kind person tell me if, or how, I can disable this. Many thanks in anticipation.

Which version of Firefox are you using? The latest version (Firefox 4) only shows the 'loading' information while a page is actually being compiled. It then disappears automatically. (It's useful because it lets you know where the ads are coming from, rather than just the URL of the page you're viewing).

Thanks, for your interest Buenchico. Yes, I use Firefox 4.0 and I guess it's one of those things … the loading information niggles me. I suppose the location of the ads might interest some but Firefox can be set to block most, if not all of them anyway. I'd still like to disable it though !!!
