Advice needed on planting up Grow Bags

Hello everyone.
We were thinking of buying a friend some grow bags and plants for his birthday. First of all, his birthday is mid May, is it too late to plant up Courgettes, Cucumbers, Tomatoes etc?

If it isn't, when would they crop?

The reason being, he's a teacher and goes away for the School Summer holidays. So there'd be no point planting these if he won't be there to look after them.

They are ok to plant in May but they will crop in July, August and September so if he is not around then not worth it.
