Mauritius in February
I hope someone can give me quick reply to this.
Am about to confirm (tomorrow 4/11/05) my place on a trip to the east coast of the island of Mauritius in Feb. '06. Basically, what I have read about the weather suggests high temps and humidity but also the possibility of cyclones. Also, how do you rate Air Mauritius? Feedback from websites has been mixed to poor. Any help appreciated.

Hi tc, Well I have found Air Mauritius to be OK but maybe I have low standards!! Yes it can get a bit warm in December and January but by February it is starting to cool down a bit, but anyway the max you should expect generally is about 36C, humidity is usually not too high except after a cyclone. Cyclones - well if you never had the experience it can be interesting but the indian ocean cyclones are usually not so destructive as the Atlantic hurricanes (same thing , different name) because the deap sea temperature is much lower here then the Atlantic basin area and it is the warm water which feeds the storms. A cyclone is no problem for tourists, all the hotels and commercial buildings (and most houses) are built to withstand them, unlike certain places I could mention such as the USA, all the hotels have their own generators and water filter systems etc...
Oh and one other thing when someone tells you to be carefull not to get too much exposure to the sun...Take note. the stupidist thing many visitors do is to hire a jeep (open top) and drive around all day, nice and cool in the breeze and next day they can't move for sunburn.
