Recycle bin - Help !!!

As I could not do a defragment as there was not enough space I tried putting a load of files and folders into my recycle bin to see if it gave it enough space to do this. it did so I restored all the items in the recycle bin so I could delete some. Unfortunately all the word and excel documents have gone, it only restored the folders.
If you right click on your desktop, click on properties, click on desktop, customise desktop. I have 2 recycle bins, one full, one empty. How can I restore the items in the full one??? Clicking on the full one and restore default does not work.

Putting things in the recycle bin will only free up space when they are permanently deleted from the recycle bin, was there an error telling you that the selected items were too large for the bin and they will be permanently deleted when you first moved them there (otherwise known as that little box that you didn't read properly and just clicked OK)

The full and empty recycle bin you can see in customise desktop is just showing you what the icon will look like for the bin in each state (you can change it if you want, and then right clicking and selecting restore default will change it back to the default picture)

So basically, you have deleted all your files. (you do have a backup of course, don't you?)

And if you don't have a backup, firstly I'm pretty sure you will keep one in the future now, secondly it may be possible to recover your files. have a read here for the explaination

Though if the drive was nearly full installing the software may overwrite some of the space file you want to recover are and make them un-recoverable, best results would be had by removing the hard drive and fitting it as an extra drive to another computer and running the recovery one that.
