Obesity....too much fat and additives in food and not enough exercise in a lot of cases...anorexia....media pressure with super slim models that children aspire to be like....neither good and yet not enough is done about either.

are you sure that 'we as a nation' do? Other nations have fat and thin people too, though very poor nations have more thin than fat - but that's because of their relationship to money, not to food. The media are always moaning about people who are obese or anorexic, so you can't blame them; but the truth is different people have different body sizes.

A lot of other countries in Europe are also getting fatter people. It's the rubbish fast food that is replacing good decent homecooked food. The families not sitting around a dining table and eating properly!
the daily mail has to be one of the worst newspapers for promoting this unhealthy outlook by constantly ridiculing people's appearances. not to mention the unreal(airbrushed to within an inch of their life) images that adorne most magazines.

Personally I think the size 0 aspirations are the fault to a large extent of the media and the fashion industry. The massive increase in obesity probably has more complex and psychological reasons but I'll start the ball rolling by saying a lot of it has come about due to the massive avaiability of processed ready food and people not having the time or inclination to stay home and take time to cook.
I don't think we do, any more than anywhere else. If there is any pressure, it's the fashion industry and magazines, presenting everyone with perfect bodies which we know now is just photoshopping. Kids are obsessed with celebs and how they look, this is far more widespread that it ever was before. It's not directly food-related, it's body image.
Yes booze is a huge problem more so in England.

I'm aware that we're not the only nation, i was asking about Britain specifically. I agree i mean the influences are everywhere watch television, visit a cinema, look through a magazine and there's no doubt you'll be bombarded with ridicuousy skinny women and men. Yet there can be psychological problems either with family or at home or whatever, in many cases people have become anorexic due to a broken home when they were children or a poor unhappy childhood.

The Americans have a lot of very fat people. In fact when my friend, who weighs 28 stone went over there on holiday they told him he was average size. Cheered him up no end!
