Like you Craft I bought my Kindle this week too.
I found it quite straightforward to use and was pleased to discover the USB connection hooked into the power plug! I've downloaded a couple of free books and had a go browsing the web. I will definately find it more beneficial when I'm out and about rather than when i'm at home I think.
I've decided to purchase books via my laptop as I don't feel safe making credit card transactions via an unprotected Kindle (ie no firewall and an open connection available to anyone should it get lost of stolen) So am thinking in terms of deregistering form the Amazon connection.
Places to download free books other than Amazon include Gutenberg, freekindlebooks, bookdepository etc
