Not nice thoughts about the Mallard who invade the feeding station.
The answers all contain the word bird or the name of a bird.

ruddy duck ??? (don't see a feeding station connection)
Do a Google search for "ruddy duck restaurant" - there's dozens of them. That's all I can think of...

Thanks MarkRae and bibblebub. I forgot to say the answer's (5, 5) but I hadn't thought of it being a restaurant name. If it had been' feeding stations' ruddy ducks might have been the answer.
Does the clue say Mallard or Mallards? (If Mallard then it should say INVADES).
However neither would explain Ruddy Ducks. I don't think that can be right. Was the Mallard also a train?
Question Author
Yes, a steam train, factor 30 , but I'm coming round to the idea that the answer is right because as you say mallard is used as a plural and it's not a very precise quiz.. In Scotland we don't have many restaurants called The Ruddy Duck and so I didn't think along these lines. Certaily its the best answer for the moment.
I thought Mallard could be plural too (same way as sheep) in which case Ruddy Ducks is good.
Fat Duck, restaurant ?

The ruddy duck is blamed for the decrease in population of other breeds of duck by taking over their habitat. I guess this is the reference to feeding stations.
How do you get Ruddy from any of this clue?
Hi boxtops- I have only ever heard MALLARDS as the plural of mallard.
The clue may be imprecise.
Ruddy Ducks is probably right
'cos ruddy's an alternative swear word to Bloody, prudie.
I know boxy but that is a very very loose interpretation of not nice thoughts
tambo- the answer is 5,5.
prudie- the 'ruddy' is the 'not nice thought'. Poor clue really- could be almost anything but there is a breed called Ruddy Duck
Question Author
Mike 11111 has clinched it for 'ruddy ducks' Thanks all.
Glad you have your answer although the RSPB website claims there are only 150 of these ducks left in UK after a culling programme because they bred with natural ducks, spoiling the line, nothing to do with pinching food.
