I don't want Lisax's thread to go unnoticed tonight so I'd like to add to hers and invite others to.
Mine is my great aunt, in 1943 she gave birth. The father was a GI stationed over here and she never heard from him again (a one night stand). She kept her son (an absolute shame in those days) and only married aged 67! My mother had me in 1970 when single mothers were still frowned upon. I gave birth in 2000 although by then it was apparently a 'badge of honour'. Three generations of women have been single parents (not by choice, and I love my dad as dearly as I did when I first met him aged 3) I feel proud to come from such a stirling stock!
Incidentally, when these things REALLY mattered, my maternal grandmother chose to marry in church - even though her family were chapel! A HUGE deal then!
