Have you ever read any of the Dragon Riders of Pern books? Originally by Ann McCaffrey then co- authored with her son Todd? Now he has taken up her mantle. (What a pretentious way of saying he now writes some of the books) Sorry. She has created a fascinaing world. Do try at least one. Would suggest Dragonflight as a start. Not the first chronologically, (not written in order) but gives a tantalising taster to a world to be discovered.

but I like the ship who sand.... and crystal singer series even more
