Today’s hearing was simply to hear his plea and he chose to plead guilty to manslaughter (which has been rejected by the prosecution) but not guilty to murder.
His opportunity to apologise will come if and when he is convicted of an offence and his regret can be offered as all or part of his mitigation. I believe he is to stand trial for murder in October.
