34A The ebbing of two tides when about to drown plants (7) S?IRAE?

Is it spiraea or spiraes? If so, how is it worked out? A letter S has to be ommitted from the wordplay.

Any help appreciated.

Spiraea ?
spiraea
tides = rip and ea backwards / inside when = as backwards [chambers gives tide as also meaning river [hence ea]
so it could make perfect sense without dropping the s which i thought was a bit iffy - the answer is sea rips backwards about a = about!

Sorry for the delay in saying thank you. I have been away. I had already put spiraea and hoped for the best. Now I can see it was correct. It is always nice to know how the clues are worked out - some more obscure than others.
