DVD Burning -Please Help!

I have Nero ultra v6 but i cant seem to burn movies which iv downloaded onto dvd, they simply dont work on dvd players. i think i need to convert them first but i dont know how. Can anyone help???

i use a bit of software called dvd santa.it converts movie files to dvd format and then burns them.

i think its a free dl

Another very good programme for converting is Winavi

This converts most formats (AVI/Mpeg and even MP4) to DVD - I use this for converting and DVD Santa for burning to disc although as Mattk says, DVD santa will do it all.

Nero does all of the things the other programs mentioned do. When you have downloaded a video file, what is the extension i.e. .avi. .mpg etc etc?

- Gandy most of the files i have are avi some are mpeg how do you convert them with nero. When i burn a dvd it seems to work it even says 'Converting' but as soon as i try playing i t on any dvd player it doesnt recognise it.
