Asparagus jem. My avatar should show a particularly appetising juicy one dripping with butter, or oil.

I used to have an asparagus bed when we lived on our farm. Endless supplies of it all through May. Our wee was positively green.
Having moved oop north and away from the *countryside*, I miss the 'Sparrers grarss' season.......I'd stop on my way home from work a couple of times a week to buy some from a local Farm Shop.......
I have been spoiling myself and bringing some back from every trip from the supermarket... so far its been steamed, in soup, in a baked omelette, sadly on fat free diet so no oil or butter,,, cold in salads.... love thestuff
i would have it with chicken, even custard tastes good with chicken

At the weekend had some wrapped in prosciutto and then dipped in a home-made vinaigrette. Soooper.

I love asparagus any way and somewhere between hard and soft not sauces bearnaise or hollandaise though...yeuch....
I believe the sparrow grass name came from the cockney workers at covent garden where it is still called "grass"
Recently planted 12 crowns down our allotment - just have to wait three years before I can pick it! I'll have good English Asparagus with butter, it seems a shame to do it any other way, but the bundles of thinner Spanish Asparagus makes a damn fine soup - http://www.deliaonlin...s/asparagus-soup.html
