Has had her front lawn turfed today. I don't know anything about gardening so can you tell me if this way is correct.
The gardener covered her lawn with a thin layer of soil, then he raked it so it was flat. He then lay the turfs, watered them and left. This doesn't seem right to me. What do you think?

That's what my neighbour next door did too - her lawn is OK. Lots of watering now needed.
Green side up I hope!! Hopefully they would have also loosened the surface of the ground so the roots of the new grass can get some food and water, just sprinkling some loose soil around will not do that. that turf now needs to be kept very moist or it will die in a couple of days.
ideally the soil should be gone over with a fork to remove any large stones or other rubbish first, then properly levelled... now it shouldn't be walked on for a few weeks and watered really well every couple of days

Thanks guys. I will impart your knowledge to her.
I've been trying to grow a lawn with seed but the bl00dy wood pigeons keep eating them. Some of it is coming up though in spite of them and it is a really lovely green better than the old bit. Rain is definitely needed to help, (but not too much)
