Just been listening to money for nothing by the brilliant dire straits and heard most of the song is about moving microwave ovens, colour t.v's etc. Whats all that about! Can you really think up these lyrics sober!?

Its about steealing and "moving on stolen goods" Money for nothing! I think!!

Story is, Mark Knopfler was queuing in a shop and heard one of the assistants complaining about the band playing on MTV at the time. Knopfler used the complaint pretty much word for word to give the lyrics.

The narrator is a delivery man, looking at a bunch of rock&rollers wondering why they make so much money for doing nothing:

That's correct. The assistant was complaining that they get money for nothing i.e. implying (totally correctly) that their music is nothing more than mid-Atlantic pander-to-the-lowest-common-denominator dross, yet they still get all the girls on tour.

i downloaded a few albums by the artist Donovan. On one of the tracks he sings about his favourite shirt...which is lovely...and his shoes....which too are lovely
i think they were drunk on something else in those days
