My sister is trying to connect to the internet via my router. We are in the same room and her laptop is connecting ok but just has "local access" and cannot get on to the internet. I've loaded a Netgear disc and dongle but she still can't get on even though she is being told she is connected. Any help would be great.

If it's wireless and windows XP you are probably using the wrong network key.

She has Vista chuck.
Have you got your router limited to 1 connection at a time?
Have you got your router set to block unknown IPs?
Have you tried turning everything off, turn router on, then pcs?

Problem solved. We just plugged her in with the yellow cable while she's staying here. Thank you for the advice.people.
