Whilst I appreciate that if you live in the countryside there will inevitably be country smells, but is it normal for the country smells to reek like blocked drains? Thanks

In my experience (and I grew up on a farm) farm smells do not smell like a blocked drain which is a smell unique to itself. Are you sure it is from a farm and not from a drain problem/sewerage problem?
Its an offence for slurry to leech into a stream; phone Defra & Council.

Hi Barmaid - I spoke to a couple of people up at the school from all over the village and they were all complaining about and saying that it smelt like drains, it's definitely the farm.

Hi Tambo - might do that just to see what they say.
What sort of farm is it?
Slurry spreading is the answer to the prob--- all part of farming .
Are you sure that a septic tank is not being emptied? Happened here the other day and the smell was awful!

Hi JB - it happens about once a month, every one in the village is convinced it is the farm and I should think that all the houses here have mains sewerage (it's quite a big village).
ooh yes, quite a few of the house round here have no mains drainage and even if you have all the windows up as you go by the stink is appalling.
I don`t think it is pig s**t. That is very acrid. It doesn`t smell anything like drains. It might be something else the farmer is using. There are fertiliser pellets made from human effluent. It could be that but I don`t think the smell is from pigs
It always makes me smile when people refer to fresh country air... the overriding smell of the countryside has always been of poop to me. I hate it.
