I did an ECDL years ago between 2000-2001, I think the syllabus has changed as there are new versions of the ECDL courses. Is it worth doing it again since no I would be using an advanced MS Office (Office 2010) ? I am particularly interested in doing Excel as its a skill demand these days in office jobs.

Any guidance?

I would say yes. anything that shows that you are capable of learning a new skill, or update an old one, would look good on a CV. Alternatively, try your local Learn Direct (if there still is such a thing) I was able to update my knowledge there.
You probably should if you can. I'm doing it using 2007 at the moment and our instructor learned using 2003 and sometimes has to mess about before being able to tell things for sure so it would do no harm for you to learn the new layout.

I think I might do an Excel one by itself rather then a full ECDL.
