Emigrating to USA??
Not fitting into the criteria set out by the USA I have been told my chance of emigrating there to live with my daughter and her family is a 'Lottery Application'
Can anyone give me further information on this selection process please. I've not gained a lot of info from the Embassy and to get involved with lawyers is going to be very expensive.
Any pointers or advice greatly received.
Thanks in advance

i think my best advice would be to forget it - as far as i know there is no hope of you getting a visa to emigrate there. I have a vaugue recollection that if she/you are the last survivng relatives of each other there could be a chance, but if there is family there, this is obviously not the case.
Buenchico is good at answers regarding US visas etc, so hopefully he will see this later and answer

The USA only opens the 'green card lottery' (which is officially called the Diversity Visa Program) to people from countries with low rates of migration to the U.S.A.
UK citizens aren't eligible.
Most UK citizens have no chance of emigrating to the USA. If your daughter holds US citizenship, you can apply for an Immediate Relative Visa:

However you should note that the process is far from quick. Friends of mine emigrated to the USA, to live with their daughter and her family, several years ago. It took over two years to get their visas.
If your daughter does not hold US citizenship then (unless she makes a successful application for it) you've got no chance whatsoever of emigrating to the USA unless you meet the very strict criteria applying to employment visas

(or unless you marry a US citizen or a US 'Permanent Lawful Resident')
