How much to spray paint kitchen cupboards?
I am having new cupboard doors fitted and the finish on them is not even.
They were hand made in HDF board and taken to be spray painted in a factory. The finish is uneven with some areas mottled and some smooth and some seem to be over painted.
I'm a bit cheesed off as it wasn't cheap but he is onto the sprayers to ask them what can be done.
I would like to know about how much it would cost to do should they not want to put it right.
There are 16 doors and draws of various sizes.
Thanks

Whoever you bought them from is responsible and obliged to supply you with the expected quality. If you bought them from a retailer, don't let him pass the blame onto the factory. Let him know that he is responsible and that you want the items you paid for at the expected quality.
Thank you both.
I just want to be prepaired in case he gets snitchy.
He has agreed to call the sprayer and take them back.
He keeps going on about the fact they are hand made and won't be perfect but as I said to him, it doesn't have to be perfect just a standard finish all over not different finishes!!
Annie, draw was one of my better spelling attempts LOL :) You should see me when I am not on top form. A half dead dislexic monkey comes to mind LOL

He has spoken to the painter and he says there is nothing he can do about it and no one has complained before!. Which i am amazed at! I wonder at it's durability as after one weekend it is lokng a itte chipped in places!
He has offered a £200 reduction. TBH I don't want a reduction I want nice evenly painted cupboards. Is £200 a reasonable offer?
He has done the tileing and tiled over the excisting wall paper. I did ask if he waspposed to do that but he said it was fine!!! The walpaper is old abd peeling off and has a couple of coats of paint on it.... I wonder if he cleaned all the muck o first??

Oh dear.................. HDF or MDF need the right primer to start with. Without it, any paint is likely to be patchy.......... simply because the primer makes sure that the "suction" is uniform across the material. With differing suctions, some bits soak in too much and are dull and uneven.
If they used the right one, then there's no excuse for this. You can get perfect results from even a Halfords aerosol can!
I've taken them to a car-spraying workshop in the past. No reason why the result shouldn't look as good as your car.
As for tiling over wallpaper ............. what can I say. It may be ok, but on the other hand.....................
Hopefully, Trimesaurus (spelling?) will see this and comment. He's a tiler. :o)

Hi Buildersmate,
Can you pop round my house and have a word with him please :) lol
He went into a great deal of detail about how many coats of undercoat and paint it had but I just can't see how he could have let it out of the sprayers looking like that! He keeps banging on about it being hand made and that it won't be perfect. But surely when you pay for something to be hand made you do expect a reasonable standard? Or am I missing something?

I am in the process of having my kitchen re-done and all the kitchen units and doors/drawers are hand made and spray painted.
I have excellent colour perception and all my paintwork matches perfectly.
In my opinion yours are not 'fit for purpose' and not up to standard.
Tiling over wallpaper? The word cowboy springs to mind.

No, you're not missing anything Cassa. It's rather like your car. It's easy enough to paint it yourself, with a brush, but we take them to spray shops to get a perfect factory finish...........
If your guy had any pride in his work, he would have been the one to notice the sub-standard finish, and dealt with the sprayers. If I had been in his place, you wouldn't have seen them until they were right. You would never have known anything about it 'cos it would have made me look a prat.
I'd never let a job go sour like this. Very difficult to re-establish confidence now.
If you're up to it, do a deal to get rid of him. He's admitted fault by offering a reduction despite what he says. Give him a final payment with a promise of no comeback. I bet he'll take it.
Perhaps take a door to a car-refinishing place........... see if they'll do it. A quick rub down and a couple of decent coats should do it.
Oh, I'd happily have a word, but I'll bet you're nowhere near Exeter!!

Thank you everyone. I know your right but being a bit of a namby pamby the best I can do is tell him it isn't up to standard.
Luckily he has said we will get something off the bill.
Overall though I would have prefered descent doors! However to get rid of him I shall accept.
Thanks Buildersmate. You're right I am nowhere near Exeter. :( otherwise I'd have you round like a shot :)
Would a car sprayer abe to do these doors? and if so where would I get the colour I wanted?
Thanks

You'd have to ask a couple, it will largely depend on how quickly you want them done, if you don't mind waiting a little while and having them done as a fit in when quiet job it will be a lot cheaper (or you may find one that would do it cash in hand as a private job.... errr, obviously I don't condone this:))
Double Lolling here!! ................ Chuckie's typos just get better ;o) Apparently, he's having a "Bumans" holiday today, fixing computers.............
Sorry Chuck ................. he's dead right though, no problem for a carbody sprayer, especially for "pound notes" ............. I still say that even though we've had coins since 1983 :o)
