I don't know wether you mean an indoor one or an outdoor one I have 'dealt' with outdoor ones they are quite easy to look after and can be reduced at any time as they can tolerate dry conditions so it doesnt matter too much when you prune them but I would say late Autumn should be the best time away from any frost. If they are left undisturbed they will flower eventually and they produce quite pretty creamy white flowers on a long stalk one thing I would advise though is to trim the sharp edges off the leaves as they can be pretty dangerous
