Thank you for all your responses. It does seem to depend upon how you define a 'programme'. I can't see that the 'news' is a programme even though it goes out at defined times of the day and has a structured setup. Clearly 'the daily service' is a programme and has been running for all these years (as per wikipedia). However, I was hoping that someone would point me in the direction of these two items. The first is 'the week's good cause', first broadcast 26th Sept 1926 but subsequently changed to 'radio 4 appeal', and the other is the 'shipping forecast', first transmission 28th Sept 1926 and still going strong under that title. But I would like to know how that programme coped during the war years!.
