Knitting in a tight spot
3 Answers
When I was a child, my Uncle told me about his experiences as a prisoner of war in Italy in WW2. He had a very bad time and was extremely thin when he returned to Scotland afterwards. He told me that he had knitted himself some socks with twigs and string, but that he had experienced problems turning the heel! What would you knit in his situation?

I'd need a pattern to turn a heel and of course, four needles not two. Very difficult using twigs although I have seen wooden knitting needles. If you could find some twigs which you could smooth down and put points on both ends it could be done. But string - horrible. It might have been easier to do a string vest.
