Not many things make me cry but bloody hell, is anyone watching bbc1? programme called "undercover care". This is just barbaric. That poor woman's son. I'm in tears of anger here.

I know he had to keep up the pretence to get the story, but I couldn't have done it.
As for the CQC - their reports on Care Homes are not worth the paper they are written on - I viewed their reports on Care Homes in our area when we were looking for a suitable one for my Mum - all the reports were at least 3 years old - they all sounded the same and the ratings were all similar. I have a ongoing investigation still current into my Mum's physical abuse at one of their 5 star ratings care homes.
When I spoke to a Director of the CQC - she told me they normally inspect homes once a year, but due to cut backs this will now be every 3 years. I think it should be every 6 months.
This programme was only the tip of the iceberg. Very Very sad.

sure they are tipped off DEN, makes life easier for both parties, and as I said, the poor elderly with dementia really can't complain!......and sadly, the care staff know that, when councils ran their own homes things were so different, the staff were both well trained and well paid, nowadays with private companies running these homes, it's all about profit!......they pay the minimum wage to youngsters who are not interested, just need a job, and resent having to do the job they do, because they aren't qualified to do anything else!.....sad to say but 'if you pay peanuts then you're going to get monkeys'!..........so very sad, but so true!.............
Totally agree with you, Welshlibranr - the staff in the Care Home where my Mum was before, covered every task, from washing the floors, to giving out the clean laundry, to feeding the residents, to toileting them and so on. There was no time left for actually inter acting with the residents, so they were drugged up and left to sit in a chair or in bed.
This programme on tonight was dealing with young adults with learning difficulties, something I also have experience of. My late sister-in-law had learning problems, but was always listed as mentally disabled - she could be difficult, but with gentle coaxing and encouragement she was fine. I cried at this tonight, putting her in that position, she would have been terrified.
I think bully boys Wayne & Co should be put in a room with a few, lets say, not so vunerable adults - if you get my meaning (:o)

I worked in care for a number of years,in East London with ladies with Downs Syndrome and proud to say that they had the best care we could give them and they went on a holiday each year, but this programme is just the tip of the iceberg, I left a job Essex because I didnt like what was going on and I reported it when I left and they said "they would look into it"
In East London we had two inspections per year one announced inspection and an unannounced one when they could come anytime day or night and they did have the power to close a home down though I did not hear of ever happening.
They have done this sort of undercover reporting before, but it stil happens.
