I would think varieties of a fruit or vegetable...guessing something that comes in 'black' like grapes, plums, cherries, or beans

I tried to help with a clue on this one.
It took me absolutely ages to work out the connection between friar tuck, robin hood and black prince.
Heres a clue: It could be your local. (three letters starting P and ending in B)
and then add sandwich (as that is where the black prince landed in the UK apparently).
This doesn't mean my answer is correct, it is my suggestion.

I think you could be right cancross, but if we aren't doing the quiz, just helping, it's hard to know what they are looking for. You could be right with your answer. We both traced the names back to pubs. I think that alone was a very good attempt.
