moving away to a new area, you know no one. Is it always such a bad idea when you are looking for a new life - new start - new job - new friends, etc?

It takes time to fit in to a new job, new home and effort to make new friends. If you're not feeling that great to begin with then doing all of those things can seem much more daunting and can leave you feeling isolated and alone.
Depends on the person.
Depends on the person.
As ummmm said - depends why. I recently had to move away after fifty years in one area cos I lost my job and would eventually lose my house. Not happy about that at all BUT I know had I stayed, I would have lost out in other ways. Because I moved far enough away (and was in an expensive region being just outside London) I was at least able to be mortgage free now.
I have known many people who moved to Alaska without knowing anyone other than they had a job arrangement. They were single and all of them who I have know have made friends like they have always lived here. I have never done such without a mate.I am not sure I would fare as well. I think if I had to do it for a job though I would look to it as an opportunity for adventures and new experiences. I think it would always be nice to have some sort of carry-over such as transferring to a similar club or church affiliations where you could jump in an volunteer. Volunteering seems to be an instant friend maker. Good Luck
