We were free as children, we could pretend to be nazis and shoot people without being arrested. At night the whole family would huddle by a coal fire and listen to the radio, whilst colouring or reading, much nicer. We ate healthy food and not many sweets. We used our imaginations and didn't have to be amused by the internet. We were put in our places with a clip round the ear from adults and the police if we needed it.

How about sitting round the coal fire and not daring to go out into the hall because it was soooooooooooooo cold. Inside of bedroom windows frozen in the mornings, chilblains, scarlet fever because there were no antibiotics, getting dressed in front of an electric fire as quickly as possible. not having a telly, hoover, telephone, I could go on. I miss the freedom of the 40s and 50s, but not the labour saving stuff there is now. I used to have to do the family washing in the bath!! Then along came the Rolls Rapide, bliss.
