30th Birthday Party
3 Answers
Hi peeps, not sure where to post this.
Has anyone had a big 30th Party? What did you do? The venue where I'm having it do a disco or I can bring in a band. Very nice food...formal or hot buffet? They will also allow us to do a casino Royale theme too in the marquee outside. Maybe an illusionist or magician going around the tables? Just want some ideas really. Want to go all out and have a party that everyone will remember....and of course one that I will too :-) Thanks for any input. x

Here, for what they're worth, are my thoughts:
Live music is always better than any disco. (Well, it is if you book a decent band, anyway!). It will also make your party stand out from other parties which your guests may have attended.
A formal, sit-down meal?
No way! You want people to relax and start enjoying themselves as soon as they arrive. Go for a buffet.
Entertainment?
While there are some technically good magicians out there, very few seem to be genuine 'entertainers'. Allow everyone to have a break from dancing and socialising by engaging the services of a good comedy performer. (That could be 'stand up' or, for example, it could be a ventriloquist with a decent comedy act).
A Casino Royale theme?
Well, if you really want to, I suppose but a good party shouldn't need any theme.

Yes I think you're right, hot buffet is the way to go. Entertainment wise, we are going to book a stand up comedian. We've had a look on alive network and there are some brilliant one, although pricey, but we expect that. We're still going to go with the disco who will play our music list. Think it might look too extravagant if I have a full on band too. Dunno - maybe....still thinking :-) I do understand any good party shouldnt need a theme, but I thought roulette table etc with a few prizes would have been fun entertainment for guests too. Also, a good excuse to wear a posh frock (god I sound more like 40! haha). One of my friends is a photographer, so he will be taking pics of the night, so think that'll be nice to capture the evening.
