Why does the media describe people as "mother of two" or "father of three" etc. Is this their only claim to fame, that they have had children? I hope that is not the only thing I have done in this world, given birth.

I find that annoying too, maybe it's just to illustrate that they have dependents and are not totally alone in the world.

Although another diverse view was the burglar who was let off his prison sentence to look after all his children as a human right.
Or, they describe - Mrs. X, 45, lives in a £245,000 three bedroom house, as if that makes any difference to the story...
Same reason as they say things like "TRAGIC little Jemma who died at the hands of this MONSTER lived for her ballet and was often seen in her PINK FLUFFY tutu SKIPPING to her lessons, everyone is just GOBSMACKED" ..it sells.

One of my absolute tabloid pet hates is this: when a youth (ie. older than 16 but younger than 20) is the victim of a crime, he is a "boy" when he's the perpetrator, he's a "man".
Or Mr Jones who works as a Supermarket shelf stacker.
I suppose they want to cram in as much background as possible in a little space ?they would want a lorra words to describe me !
