Hello Ratters. That mythical regional thing is probably true in the current climate, but I would suggest that the regional tradition goes back a lot furthur in time.
Probably on the same lines of the man from Kent or the Kentish man

I love 'em warm with thick 'Lurpak' butter on 'em, one I'm ok but two and I find my tongue is tingley. (I think its the bi-carb in 'em)

When I make them myself I leave it out.
