Haha, I'm guessing you didn't do primary then. As long as you have their respect and they know when is acceptable to have that kind of banter going on, that sort of relationship goes a long way. Although, if 'alf pissed came up I think I'd be giving them the 'look' 8o/
I'm not a fan of the Victorian approach.

It's 20 years since I left teaching but I'm still in touch with many of my ex-pupils, so I can't have got it all wrong!
(Incidentally, I'm a strong believer that teachers should have to earn the respect of their pupils. A good starting point is to show the kids that you respect them!)
