vauxhall corsa warning light (2000 model)

can anyone help my 1.2 ecotech corsa's engine warning light,(the one with a car and a spaner in the middle) has started to stay on continually once the car is started. it drives fine but is it safe to drive and what is the likely cause please.

Check in the owners handbook, it is either stating that a service is due or there is a fault in the engine management/emissions system. if its the emissions system you could be causing damage to the catalytic converter(the expensive bit in the exhaust that reduces emissions)in this case you will have to take it to a garage who can "plug in" & read the fault codes.(the aa & rac carry such equipment) good luck
