The Government aren't soft on crime after all...

// Plans by Kenneth Clarke, the Justice Secretary, to halve the prison sentences of thousands of criminals will be abandoned after a political backlash and the personal intervention of David Cameron. //

Seeing as it was to save lots of money, they haven't explained how they will pay for this change of mind.

NHS reform...

// The sound of screeching brakes could be heard in University College Hospital as David Cameron engaged reverse gear on NHS reforms. //

Are these changes welcome? Coalition politics at its worse? Or just a complete shambles?

Zeuhl

Thatcher and Blair had very big majorities so believed they had a mandate so they were arrogant with their power. Cameron has to try and please everyone, not easy.
U-turns? Governments do you know.......of all persuasions.

Health reforms needed badly......but the Coalition's ideas are all wrong in my opinion.

Surely Mrs Thatcher did not do U-Turns? But look what happened to her.
fair enough, Zeuhl, but if they do it a lot, you have to wonder at their wisdom in putting these policies forward in the first place. Or alternatively at their reluctance to carry through their election promises.
Cameron talked tough on crime and the EU and who does he appoint ?
Europe loving , soft on crime Ken Clarke !
One thing for certain he certainly likes to drop his ministers in the sh!t. First there was the forest sell off, then Andrew Lansley's health proposals have done a U-turn and now under pressure from the press he has abandoned Ken Clarke and his sentencing policies.

None of these policies see the light of day until they have been discussed in Cabinet so there's no excuse there.

A general picture seems to be emerging that a Minister under pressure from the Media has to abandon his policy and Cameron hasn't the guts to back them 100%.
However when it comes to Cameron's own ideas especially foreign policy they go through hell or high water to implement them. You get the impression he is a complete sh!t and thinks only of himself.
He will certainly be the loser as none of his cabinet will show him any respect.
