Why is it looked down upon, is it because we are difficult to understand?

She's my mams sister, born in Dublin, lived in Belfast nearly 30 years and you would never think she was from Dublin

When my daughter and her husband first moved to Milton Keynes they both felt the people were taking the p*ss at their Yorkshire accents. Now her accent is not so strong, but when she comes back home she finds it again. I like the Welsh accent a lovely soft one, not sure which part of Wales.
And Bobbi, LOL's all up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire!! ;o)

Night night Bobbi.

Lottie Yorkshire people are supposedly known for their friendliness but I must say I don't think that applies in York (other Yorkshire folk have also said this). We tend to be quite stand-offish until we get to know people, but once you're accepted you'll never have better friends.

Night LL sweet dreams....for both of us..
Although I have no direct experience of it, the most unfriendly region of the UK is reckoned to be the Welsh-speaking areas of North Wales. Apparently this is directed not only towards the English but also people from other parts of Wales, even Welsh-speaking ones.
I have not read through this thread, but didn't Henry Higgings say," Why can't the English teach their children how to speak, this verbal class distinction by now should be antique"
