Can anyone confirm how dangerous it can be to humans? -Or is that just a myth?

It won't kill you, unless you get a reaction to it that causes anaphylaxis. At most a nasty rash., In some cases it has no effect on the person. I'd say you'd be in more danger from a bee sting

Thanks for that- which dispels a story told by my art tutor that someone he knew had died from handling ivy.....I suppose it could have been as a result of anaphylactic shock....
...still, "leaves of three..." and all that.
We used to have ivy growing over our garden wall when I was a child. I remember being told that it was poisonous but the cows that lived in the field at the end of our garden used to love sticking their noses under the barbed wire and eating our ivy. i think it might give some people a rash but it never bothered us kids.
It's a North American plant. If you are in Europe then there isn't a problem as it doesn't exist over here
If you have a plateful with berries as a wholesome salad .. I would take a couple of days off work.
