Well this just about takes the biscuit, UK taxpayer's money used to fight the French court's ban on the burkha.
And these are the UK lawyers behind the challenge.

If you had read the article you would haver noticed that they are not eligible for legal aid, only the use of taxpayer's funded UK lawyers.
/// But a Legal Services spokesman said that even if taxpayer-funded IAS lawyers were representing the couple, that service would not be paid for by legal aid. ///
These are French citizens and should not be eligible for any British aid whatsoever.

The biggest Legal aid scams are perpetrated by solicitors acting for wealthy clients, who fiddle the Legal Aid rules to enable them to get their noses in the trough.
Obviously can't name names, but most people in this field know of solicitors who have got hundreds of thousands of pounds for a single case, and make a good living from it.

No Gromit I object to this :
/// They say that the husband, the main applicant, “expects and instructs” his wife to wear the burkha but risks prosecution if he crosses the Channel.///
/// He does not force his wife to wear the niqab but “expects her to do so in public, in keeping with his religious and cultural expectation and his authority as her husband”.///
And the fact that he is not a British citizen.
