Ipod syncing

To cutr a long story short I had to restore my music files from a backup. there are some songs now that ar on my ipod but not in Itunes. How do I a) stop the ipod syncing when I plugg it in effectively wiping out the differences on the ipod. b) induce itunes to copy down from the ipod songs that are not on itunes?

that looks good chuck thanks. Wonder why there isn't an easy way to do this as part of itunes/ipod I mean it's hardly an earth shattering requiremement!

just got round to trying this got 403 - forbidden response from the server, any ideas chuck?
