Windows 7 setting up e mail

A non computer knowledgeable person has just bought a laptop Toshiba PC from PC World.

They have just signed up with Orange and want to know how to start off with e mail and the internet.

I presume it is running Windows 7 (which I have never used, I am still on XP).

How do I set up an e mail account on the PC? Will they need to know any passwords?

Also will Firefox be on the machine already? Or will it be a different browser?

Any help would be appreciated!

Unlike earlier versions of Windows, Windows 7 doesn't come supplied with an email client (such as Outlook Express or similar). So the first thing to do will be to download and install a suitable program. Microsoft's own product is Windows Live Mail 2011:

Microsoft aren't going to include rival (superior) programs with their operating systems but Firefox can be downloaded from this link:

Just have a look in Programmes before you download anything, and see it has WIndows Live Mail. I felt sure it came with my Windows 7 laptop.

Once its opened it has a wizard which sees you through initiallisation.

I presume it has Internet Explorer installed as a browser?

Will probably end up phoning Orange anyhow as he seems to have forgotten his password now!

My new PC is running Windows 7 and was pre-loaded with the 60 days trial for MS Office which included Outlook. I had some problems with the email but my ISP sorted them out for me.
