The performance begins at 1.40pm.

Before the performance, you can sit on your sitting room floor, on a travel rug, and pretend to have a picnic. It will be just like the real thing.

The spectator attraction that is really elitist is football.

If you live in London, it's cheaper to go to the English National Opera than it is to go and watch Arsenal.

All the wealthy tootball fans will be at The Emirates, while the less affluent masses have to settle for The Coliseum.

It's been on Beeb2 at 1930 each night this week and the 5 finalists were named last night. I'm not sure when the final is though - this weekend I think.

ps. It's also easier to get tickets for the Opera than it is to get tickets to a Premiership football game.

Football has become highly exclusive, and financially elitist.

Opera is entertainment for the masses.

Most football FANS do not fall into either category in my opinion.....not even the fans of Brighton and hove F.C ;-)

Of course it is.....make it more expensive then the support would fall and so would opera as we know it.

Yes, the well off and INTELLIGENT would be able to afford ANY ticket price, but tickets are cheap to try and survive by lowering the price of the tickets to show that it is NOT elitist................but this has failed. Why? because opera appeals mainly to the rich and intelligent.......the ELITE.

The Golf Open, Glyndebourne Opera, Glastonbury, Royal Ascot, FA Cup, Trouping of the Colour, Wimbledon, Last night at the Proms; etc, etc

These are all Great British events. Expensive yes, but ellitist? Only if you decide to exclude yourself with a preconceived perception of any of them or the people who enjoy them.

The only people who are excluded from Opera are those people who choose to exclude themselves.

An institution can surely only be called "elitist" if there is some sort of selection process which might unfairly keep some people out.
