mib was right: I did 'get on the case' of the BBC "The Planet" footage being used for religious propaganda and wrote to George Entwistle, Director BBC Vision, asking whether he knew that BBC footage was being exploited this way. If so, whether he thought it was a proper use of public assets and whether the propagandists had paid the proper fees.
(Although I didn't say this, I know, as a documentary film-maker myself, what horrendous sums I would have to pay to use prime-time material like that.)
I have just had a personal reply from the Director, thanking me for bringing it to his attention and saying that he has passed the matter on to his colleagues for investigation.

At the very least I would expect them to issue a non-endorsement of the unconscionable way their material has been misused and misrepresented which imo was an obvious and blatant affront to reason. And I appreciate your efforts as well Chakka.
