hi i was wondering if anybody had any answer too this question that i have...... my nan has lived in her property (private rented) for 60yrs. when she first signed the tenency she signed it for 99yrs, then a year and a half ago the company sold the property too another company. the new landlord wouldnt give her a new tenency, now he has decided too put her property up for auction! does her original tenency still stand? and what are her rights too this matter?

suggest your nan gets a solicitor to give it the once over. There were quite a few protected tenancies prior to 1957 (think that's the right date) and they are pretty much impossible for a landlord to cancel while the original tenant is still living there. Without seeing the wording I can't help further (and I'm not a solicitor anyway so wouldn't want to give duff advice!)

I would suggest that she talks to Shelter - they are good at this stuff.
If she is in England, her tenancy will be what is known as a regulated tenancy - and all of these only apply prior to 1989.
