dacia duster

anyone have any knowledge or opinions on the dacia duster car ,maybe it is part of the renault group.I am thinking of buying one , but I .need advice.Thank you..

Part of the Renault group. They are very popular in Tukey wherer we have an apartment and there are loads of dealers.
They look good in a meaty way.

Dacia are a very old Romanian car company, which as you say, are now part of Renault.

The earlier Dusters were a smaller utility vehicle with limited off-road capabilities (most were only front wheel drive) based on the Renault 12/Dacia Denem floorpan and drivetrain.

Although I've not driven one, the newer Duster is apparently based on the Nissan B0 (MK III Renault Clio, Modus, and Nissan Cube) and handles approximately the same. Those cars I have driven.

Available with a choice of 1.6 petrol or 1.5 DcI engines (in varying states of tune) the options of 4WD and auto transmission, they're just as good as the opposition!

True, it won't break any speed records, although it's agile enough, but personally, I can't see 4WD being much use to me, unless I intend to drive in snow, slush or mud for a good part of the year! You must decide that though! :-)

I think of Dacia to Renault as Skoda to Volkswagen. I'd rather have a Skoda than a VW!

My preference would be the 105 ps turbo oil-burner, as not only is it economical, it can scurry along too! The others aren't exactly sloches, but they'd burn more fuel to get to the same speeds.

You couls also compare the Ford Kuga, Toyota Rav4, and the Nissan Juke, but the Ford seems kind of lumpy and staid, and the Nissan looks horrible! I'm just not sure about the Toyota, as I really don't know enough about it.

If you want a small 4x4, you could also have a look at the Skoda Fabia Scout Estate.

many thanks Skelliemonster, I would need this vehicle more for an off road dirt track ,with the ground clearance more important than speed .What do you think?

For proper offroad (I'm not talking about mud plugging!) like dirt tracks and rougher terrain than an ordinary car could handle, the Duster looks more 'capable' than the Fabia Scout.

I'd go for the Diesel forby, but you could also consider the equivalent specified Skoda Yeti, or Nissan Qashqai.

I like the looks of the Duster, and I don't doubt it's abilities, but I don't want to decry its rivals! :-)

Sorry, I should've written that as 4x4 (four-by-four, or forby-four, or forby) although these 'smaller' 4x4's are also known as 'soft-roaders' or 'faux-by-fours'!

It's the Disco's, Defenders, L200's and the like that are usually called 'Forbys' or 'Chelsea tractors'!
