what's in medicines, I usually do, but i don't really know what i am looking at, as i am not a doctor or chemist, and as to possible side effects, how would you know you are allergic until you take it.

ask your pharmacist, because my husband is an insulin rejecting diabetic we always ask the pharmacist to check its okay for him to take.At our surgery we have a seres of locums and we hardly ever see the same doc twice.I never read about side effects etc but he always does.

i meant you get the stuff home, open the leaflet, read what's in them and go good god, look at all the stuff that's in it, and what possible side effects you may get, makes me laugh sometimes, because some will say, may cause dizzyness, nausea, and thats why you have the medicine in the first place.

Sometimes its a bit scary to read about side effects, they are usually all doom and gloom.

I usually just "suck it and see" Im not sure I would recommend that policy to everyone though, especially if you are having problems that may bring these issues to fore.

indeed, some of them have had horrible side effects, so had to stop, and the worse bit is you aren't sure if its the medicine or something else. I read someplace the stats for people who don't complete courses of antibiotics, something like 85 % or more.

One medication I take (Pramipexole for restless legs) has the funniest list of possible side effects I have ever read. Some of these include:
Pathological gambling
Urge to behave in an unusual way
Compulsive shopping
Hypersexuality
Weight loss (followed by...)
...Binge eating

This is just a small sample from the list!

hoever a nice list of side effects givees you something to develop and talk about on here.... most are rare maybe one or two reports in some cases.... and most others wear off once you have taken the medication for a few weeks... or in the case of viagra a lot sooner

sqad i know, i had such a bad reaction to one tablet , that it was worse than what i started with. I did stop it, and went back to doc. One lot gave me a rash from head to toe, allergic to penicillin.. now i know.

It always amuses me when I read that a medicine may cause constipation or diarrhoea. One or the other, please.

Would just like to say if we read these side effects and worry about them, how come young people will swallow ,sniff or inject any old rubbish.

indeed, i can't abide taking these things, but doctors orders, at least for now. But the possible side effects given are strange. Someone gave me some antihistimine, have to remember if it was that, some years ago, because i had the flu, and it knocked me out for two days.

I am lucky in that I dont have any of the side effects of the pills I mentioned. Mind you, Mr O watched me like a hawk after I had a bet on the Grand National in April. He was convinced it was the start of a gambling addiction.

No, I don't read any of the leaflets now - I trust my doctors to know what I'm already on and act accordingly. Also if I read them I tend to worry about what dangerous side effects I might have/be getting.
