Which of his 3 albums should I buy? I'm trying to further my knowledge and experience of music pre 1990

my dad has bryter layter, pink moon and five leaves left and he seems to like them

I think that he only recorded 3 didn't he, before he died?

He did only record three before he died. The first was Five Leaves Left, the second Bryter Later, the third Pink Moon.

They are all good. The first is him finding his feet but has great songs like River Man.

The second is a bit more commercial with more backing instruments. Has great songs like City Clock and Northern Sky.

The third is very stark ,just him on his own as he was very depressed. I like it but maybe it is best to start with one of the others.    

You could buy an anthology or "greatest hits", that way you get songs from each album.
