i can get on ab and ancestry and facebook

but i can't search for anything, it says internet explorer cannot display the web page, says similar with firefox, though th edefault search engine if IE9. can't even get to google garth! it's a new laptop and supposed to be spot on but it's annoying. what am i missing?

Not a techie person but have you tried swearing at it (it won't make anything work but you might feel better)?

Sorry dotty, can't help with the tech side of things but I had probs with FF on Tuesday and had to resort to IE. Not even Google chrome :(

thi sis really annoying me now, I can open any link posted on ab to any site BUT when I try to search for anything from my yAHOO home page IE cannot display the web page, does anyone have a solution to this please?

In recent times I also have been getting 'internet explorer cannot display the web page'. Vexing I agree and I don't know why it happens. I click a Google icon on my links bar, having saved this web address as a favourite:-

I know its drastic but if all was working ok earlier in the week try a system restore at that date.

For Methyl:
It has been established, on another thread, that Dot's laptop can connect to websites by entering numeric IP addresses (rather than URLs), thus bypassing BT's DNS server.

sorry been on a 14 mile round trip to pick son up from work, I'll try that idea now thanks. It's wireless on our own bt hub account btw lol

I'm back now, I've got no where with this at all, still can't get onto you tube, can't search for much at all it just doesn't happen : ( tried all suggestions, can i do a format do you think?
