I need a new gas boiler fitted for heating and hot water. I have had quotes from both the electricity board and southern gas - was just wondering is it OK to just get someone who is a plumber to do the job.
Or is this a specialist sort of skill. The cost from the quotes I have had are between three and four thousand pounds.
That sounds a lot just for a boiler. There are plenty of independant gas fitters around you need to get some more quotes. Just make sure they are Gas Safe registered.
You can check out the likely suspects in your area.
A friend of mine recently had a British Gas quote for £3,500 for a simple boiler replacement. My regular plumber, who is possibly the most expensive around, did it for £2,300.
Find a local old-school plumber .. experienced. (recommended)
Ask if he can install and get connected and certified by a qualified colleague/work mate if he cannot.
Thanks for all your help - esp Mr Builder - that website was real helpful. The quote from Southern Electric was the cheapest. Funny really as both were fitting the same boiler by the looks of it. Any way I've decided on southern electric and the I have got it a bit cheaper cos my son works there.
Albags - you are obviously Gas Safe registered? Sorry for my typo - but if you simply want to get a signiture after work has been completed to say all installation is ok fine - Is that how the operate when servicing aircraft?
