There are hundreds of thousands of empty properties in London, its time the borough councils did something about that. Our borough is selling off decent council stock, nothing to do with right to buy, it also has a policy, this was information from a friend who works for the council, that immigrant families get priority on council housing, as generally they have larger families, and that policy has been in place for years, not just for the recently arrived. The usual bleat from the council has been no money in the pot to do up these empty properties, load of ***, you could let those properties out, give the people a small grant for decoration, maintenance and after that charge them a decent, fair rent. Our council gives the green light to property developers, who then build homes that are only for the very wealthy.
There is much you could do to house people in London, but they won't do it by using available stock. As to building on green belt land, nothing new, been going on for years. Britain cannot sustain more people, because its not just housing they will need but hospitals, schools, social care, and having seen the results of mass immigration in London, this situation is only going to get worse.
