I know that adults have to pay £10 for visa when you get to turkish airport but can anyone tell me if you pay the same for a 5 year old tried to google it but cannot find it explained very clearly anywhere tia

As far as I can tell from the websites of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and of the Turkish Consulate, children require their own visas. (That's common practice across most countries). For a definitive answer, phone the Consulate on 020 7591 6900.

The £10 'pay on entry' fee is a special concessionary rate to citizens of the EU and USA. The full fee (which is what you'd pay if you got your visa from the Consulate, and what non-EU/US citizens have to pay) is £68. So perhaps a tenner for a 5-year-old's visa doesn't sound quite so bad after all?

I would add, just in case there are any Scots reading this, that it must be an English tenner as Scottish currency is not accepted.

yes, i had to pay for both my kids when we went 2 years ago.

also, make sure you have a £10 note for each person, £20 note wont pay for 2 and you wont get change.

When in Turkey do not accept £10 notes from market stalls - even if the exchange rate is very favourable - as there are many fake notes around..
